where have we been??

i know, i know, it's been MONTHS since we've updated you all! i apologize, but it's been wedding season people! and what a season it was. last saturday i completed my 22nd wedding of the season, and am finished until NEXT JUNE!!! why june you ask? doesn't wedding season start earlier than that? well, usually it does, but this year i will be on MATERNITY LEAVE until june because i am 4 months pregnant with v 2.0 and due in april!!!! and although we are crazy busy with brooklyn and another one on the way, we thought we would add one more thing to our plate and have decided to move this december to marblehead! so you see, we have been quite busy these past few months ;)

things are going really well! we are really excited about all of the things that are happening in our lives. God has been so good to us, and we feel really blessed.

brooklyn is growing faster than we could've ever imagined. our chubby little baby has turned into a tall, thin little toddler, who is running around and thriving on every level. we have been having so much fun with her, and are loving her fun, feisty personality. she is so charming, and lovely, and we feel so lucky to be her parents. so without further ado, here are a few recent images of her this past weekend...

Vacation videos

Hey, kids. How you been? Summer is almost over, but the Lorenz family (along with my parents, Kelly's dad, and our good friend, Nancy) sure did have some fun. Last month we traveled to the Finger Lakes in upstate NY for a week of good local wine, swimmin', and nightly bonfires by the lake. Life is rough. Here are a few videos from that week I have been meaning to post for quite some time.

First, we have Brooklyn and bubbles!

One day during our trip, Kelly and I drove by this awesome looking old-school burger joint called Mac's Drive-In and we had to come back with everyone. They had the best local root beer in ice cold, dripping mugs, homemade custard, and all kinds of greasy food to top it off. It was bodacious. The six of us ate as much as possible and the bill came to $26! INSANITY!!! Anyway, here's B enjoying some yummy custard for the first time.

Last, but DEFINITELY not least, we visited a vineyard that had a beautiful pond with plenty of tranquil-looking swans and fishes. Little did we know that the Prince of Hades resided in one of the swans that day. I wanted to put death metal to this next clip with some scary font saying "WHEN SWANS ATTACK!" but you would've never seen this video of I waited to actually get fancy with it. So here it is...in it's raw form. Brooklyn will have her vengeance one day. Oh, yes. Oh, yes.

BROOKLYN v. BIRDIES

The big news around the Lorenz household is that little miss B is walking up a storm! It's only been two weeks, but her step speed (or SPMs - steps per minute) have progressed from timid to breakneck speed. A couple days ago, Kelly had an engagement shoot in the Fort Point Channel area of Boston, so I decided to take Brooklyn for a little stroll along the boardwalk. It was amazing to watch her explore her environment in new ways now that she's walking like a big girl. I don't think the poor local pigeonry agreed (see below for reasoning):

walking and shopping

we were getting ready to go to the beach, when brooklyn decided to do a little shopping... also, yesterday was the day b decided to begin walking more than crawling! she is still a little weary, but we predict in the next few days or so, she will be a walker!

glimpses of a bigger B

Happy summer, everyone! Sorry for the lack of posts this month, but we've been busy doing summery type things* and whatnot.

Here's the latest Brooklyn update:
  1. The wee one is not so wee anymore - she's growing like crazy!
  2. B has been walking (rather than crawling) more and more each day.
  3. Her vocabulary primarily consists of "DOGGIE", "DUCK", "MINE", "MAMA", and "BALL". Are there really any other essential words to know? I mean, come on.
  4. On a similar note, she understands SO much more when we speak with her. It's crazy to see her respond when you ask her something.
  5. B's dancing skills have improved tremendously. Her repertoire has expanded from flailing limbs to a more refined sense of movement that stems from feelin' it in the gut!
  6. Brooklyn remains a sweet soul, waving and blowing kisses to all (human and duck alike).
Lastly, I have started to capture glimpses of what Brooklyn will look like when she's older. The photo taken below was the first time I felt shocked by how quickly my daughter has turned from a baby into a little girl. Sure, everyone tells you "don't blink because if you do they'll be in college before you know it," but this never had a felt sense to me until the other day when I looked at this picture of my growing girl. It's cliche but it really does happen so fast! I am excited for the next stage of Brooklyn's development and exploration, but PLEEEEASE can it slow down just a little? Pretty please?

* Summery things include (but are not limited to): lemonade, watermelon, beaches, sweating profusely, grilling mahi mahi for fish taco night, and copious amounts of ice cream.

B & Ry

Riley came over to play with Brooklyn the other week to see her BFF. They even hoodie-coordinated (as BFFs are known to do).

Step By Step (Oooh baby!)

I haven't posted a video of Brooklyn doing her normal cute activities in quite some time, but this one had to be posted right away. B took her first steps all by herself yesterday! Of course I missed it, but Kelly got it on the ole video. By the way, the woman in the video is B's awesome physical therapist, Nicole.

happy birthday, beautiful.

i know, i know brooklyn already turned one in january. but this kid has earned the right to TWO birthday celebrations! april 28 was supposed to be her birthday - well according to the doctors. we all know God had other plans. so on this day every year, we will celebrate our beautiful daughter all over again.

not a day goes by that we are not grateful for this sweet little girl. she continues to amaze us on a daily basis. she makes us laugh over and over again throughout each and every day. she melts our hearts with her sweet little half smile, and big girl hugs. she wows us with new achievements every day. she makes it known that her crazy baby talk really does have a point! and her curiosity never ever ceases. brooklyn is and always has been one determined little girl. we learned that very early on - from day one actually. we firmly believe that b's determination was what kept her alive and able to do so well those 135 days in the NICU. now that determination has carried into brooklyn's daily life and she is well beyond where anyone would have guessed she would be at this point.

what is she doing?

1. ALMOST walking!!!
2. crawling everywhere
3. climbing our whole staircase all by herself
4. standing unassisted
5. saying mamma, dada, duck, and amen. among other things
6. drinking from a sippy cup
7. eating everything in sight. especially peanut butter ;)
8. clapping
9. DANCING
10. turning the pages in her books
11. screeching with delight when she sees any animal (especially doggies)
12. gasping when she's excited

those are just a few of our favorites!

sean and i are having so much fun being b's parents. this has been by far the best year of our lives, and we are so excited for many more to come.

baptised.

last year on easter, brooklyn was still growing in the NICU. we didn't get to see her that day until 3pm. it was a loooong day without our little girl. THIS YEAR things were different. we woke up and gave brooklyn her easter basket, ate breakfast together, and went to church - where our sweet little b was baptised. it was an incredible day. our entire congregation looked on as we dedicated little b to God. what a wonderful moment it was to stand before the church with my incredible husband, our beloved pastors, and family. i was so proud to be sean's wife and brooklyn's mother. i am blessed. it was a day i will never forget.

*erica, thank you for freezing such beautiful moments for us. you are truly talented, and i am so grateful to have these concrete memories.
